Turbo timer how does it work

BTW, that would be a l33t backyard project if you made one yourself from a small tranny cooler or intercooler!! Can buy the pump virtually anywhere. My set up would likly have a new oil pick up in the oil pan, pump it threw a remote filter and cooler then into the top of the turbo and drain back into the oil pan would have to put a check valve on both the in lines for oil to the turbo so that the oil could not flow the wrong way and be waisted..

You just block off your lines before they head to the turbo with a crossover hose. By the way, small aviation shops are the shiznit for making custom hoses 'cause they have access to really cool aviation quality fittings! Don't plug the lines or well, your oil circulation could stop Now we have to build a separate oil system. You might try a remote oil filter and cooler kit like in this picture.

You will then have to add in a small tank, a pump, and a breather. Typical dry sump systems used in racing have two pumps, one at the sump bottom of sump and one at the oil tank wherever you choose to mount the tank.

For simplicity, we can consider the turbo our sump, and mount the tank and pump below it. This would eliminate a pump. Both of these tanks and pumps are commercially available individually. The breather could be made from a stock valve cover item and grafted on to your tank, or maybe you get lucky and have a tank that already has a breather on it.

The main point of the turbo timer is to keep oil moving through the turbo and stop it being stationary next to a very hot bit of kit which works as well at idel as when moving. Subaru's have a little notice hidden in a coin holder stating that you should let the engine idle for a minute after 'hard or highway use' before turning off the ignition.
