Why evanescence broke up

Amy Lee misses Brooklyn. She lived there for 12 years with her husband and later their son, born in , before they left their apartment for Nashville a year ago.

Lee had hoped to be closer to her family in Arkansas and friends in Nashville when she moved, only to find herself stuck at home with the rest of the world. While the pandemic slowed them down, the group has forged onward, working remotely at first and later, after getting negative Covid tests, at a Nashville studio.

When the band began making a concerted effort to work on new material last year, their one rule was that there would be no rules. They began with a wealth of material and inspiration, along with a couple decade-old songs that finally feel ripe for release.

Since August, when her U. Now, the guys are back at their homes, and I am wading through the aftermath of all the music, piecing it together and finalizing the record. The near-decade leading up to The Bitter Truth has been both eye-opening and invigorating for Lee. After the release of Evanescence , the group went on hiatus to deal with a legal dispute with their former label.

When the band got back in the studio, it was to reimagine their past hits with orchestral arrangements for the LP Synthesis. Those changes, among others, mean that The Bitter Truth will be their first album with the current lineup of Evanescence. Over 22 years, Evanescence have continued to defy expectation.

I need to go be Amy. But though their enormous mainstream success in might seem like a fairytale, with Fallen selling more than 17million copies worldwide, what Amy remembers from that first album cycle is a whirlwind of uncertainty, about their music and about herself. I had to fight for everything I wanted and got treated like a child. I hate the business! I spent a lot of my emotional energy in the beginning feeling like I had to fight for my respect as a songwriter. All anybody saw me as was a girl in front of a band; a girl with some man behind her doing all the work.

Since their split in , there have been several instances where their songs appear to take jabs at one another. Moreover, there was some extra nastiness caused when Evanescence guitarist Troy McLawhorn joined Seether and then returned to Amy Lee's band last year. So it goes without saying that some of Seether's Facebook following were confused by a few recently posted photos.

Over the weekend, Seether posted a few comically doctored photos on their Facebook page, two of which were especially interesting.
