His badge number is He had not been issued a passport until an investigation required him to travel to the Czech Republic in SVU : " Pandora ".
Stabler had, over the course of his career, suffered a host of injuries and faced a number of incidents; some of which have even threatened his job and his life. In , Stabler sustained a deep cut to the hand while searching the garage of former cop and murder suspect Sam Winfield. When he and Benson later pulled HIV-positive Gloria Palmera out of her tub after she slit her wrists in a suicide attempt, her blood soaked into Stabler's bandage, and he had to be tested for HIV and he took antivirals which made him sick.
Fortunately, the test came back negative. In May , Stabler let his feelings interfere with his duty when he was called to the stand by the Assistant District Attorney , Alexandra Cabot , where he provided unsubstantiated information that the victim had been raped to a dead girl's father he sympathized with " Grief SVU ".
In May , Elliot was nearly sexually assaulted by Meredith Rice , but he pushed her and she suffered a seizure from a brain tumor. SVU : " Head ".
In November , Stabler was forced by Captain Cragen to take sick time in lieu of being suspended for refusing to seek counseling after finding the bodies of several murdered children in the Church of Wisdom and Sight ; Stabler was flagged as being at risk for excessive emotional investment after mentioning to Dr.
George Huang that one of the children was wearing the same brand of pajamas as one of his own kids. This was one of several incidents that contributed to the long-running acrimony between Stabler and Huang. Benson instead worked the case with John Munch , as Fin was also on sick leave.
In January , Elliot fractured his ribs. Lindsay Stanton whacked him in the chest with a statue. His actions were barely sanctioned by Cragen, and he was nearly pulled off the case after a failed attempt to bait his new "friend" with an undercover female officer.
He later ended up in a sticky situation when Schenkel stole his van and picked up a live victim. He was knocked unconscious by Schenkel after setting the girl free, and came very close to being killed, but managed to put Schenkel in a sleeper hold.
In October , Stabler encountered former partner Pete Breslin , whose son Luke was the prime suspect in an assault case. When Stabler advised the family of the victim not to file charges, Captain Cragen ordered him home for the remainder of the day.
Stabler later witnessed Breslin assaulting Luke in the bathroom after Luke's arraignment. While defending the boy, Stabler lost his temper and beat Breslin unconscious. He sought counseling from Dr. Rebecca Hendrix , a forensic psychiatrist and former police officer, who helped him to deal with his long-repressed feelings toward his father. Later that month, Stabler and John Munch had a close call when they were shot in the courtroom during the trial of white supremacist Brian Ackerman.
Kyle Ackerman , Brian's teenage son, shot Stabler in the arm, while Christopher Rawlings , one of Brian's associates, shot Munch in the buttock. Munch fell to the floor after being shot, to which Stabler shot and killed Rawlings. Kyle used Casey Novak as a shield, but after Rawlings was shot, he let her go and shot Stabler in the arm.
Stabler held his arm and fell unconscious. Stabler and Munch were rushed to Bellevue Hospital. They made a full recovery, and Stabler returned to work with his arm in a sling.
Stabler had another close call in January , when he was held hostage by drug addict Daniel Hunter after a botched kidnapping, where was used as a human shield by Daniel in a bank.
He was saved by Melinda Warner , who shot Hunter. In April of that same year, Stabler was held at gunpoint for several minutes in a warehouse by sadistic serial killer Victor Paul Gitano.
Benson refused to shoot Gitano, as doing so would have put Stabler's life in even more danger. Benson subsequently asked to be reassigned because Stabler told her they couldn't put the other before the job if they were to remain partners.
In September , Stabler was injured in an explosion involving dynamite but recovered from his injuries. In November , Elliot was stabbed in the chest with a pen. He was rushed to the hospital and Kathy and Kathleen came to the hospital to see if he was okay. There they meet his new partner, Dani. In February , Stabler injured his arm when Cupid threw him out the window, causing Stabler to lose all feeling in his arm.
The doctor tells Stabler he came close to severing his radial nerve. Stabler assures him he was ready for work, but the doctor tells him he has to wait until the feeling comes back in his arm and hands. Cragen informs Stabler that he is on desk duty and that he would rather lose Stabler for a few weeks than attend his retirement party. Later that year, Stabler was put on suspension after he allegedly beat a teenage murder suspect to death. An eyewitness used a video phone to record the incident of Elliot punching and restraining the much smaller teen.
Elliot was cleared of the charges when it was determined that the teen died due to cardiac arrest during the struggle, and the teen's internal injuries were not due to Elliot's use of force, but actually Elliot's attempts to use CPR to save the teen. Stabler has been shown having to use deadly force. In one incident, a corrupt police officer raised his weapon at Stabler in fear of being caught, forcing Stabler to shoot him.
SVU : " Risk " At another time, Stabler shot a suspect who was threatening to shoot his hostage despite the suspect's willingness to work the situation out with Benson.
SVU : " Debt " His third known shooting was when he shot Christopher Rawlings when he pulled a gun in a courtroom and started shooting people with his accomplice Kyle Ackerman. SVU : " Raw " The fourth time was when he shot Jenna Fox , a girl who opened fire in the precinct in retaliation for her mother's rape and murder. SVU : " Smoked ". According to Cragen, there were two other occasions when Stabler used deadly force.
SVU : " Scorched Earth ". In September , Stabler was temporarily blinded when schizophrenic rapist Saul Picard threw him into a car window. In January , Elliot was almost most choked to death by Cole Roderick. It was the second time he was almost choked to death. Luckily Elliot managed to break free and eventually subdue and arrest Cole for killing six people. Stabler pressed charges, but only did so in order to get Tommy to testify against his mother's doctor, Gideon Hutton ; the charges were later dropped, though Stabler urged the boy to get tested for HIV, as Susan's death suggested that he was at risk for the disease.
SVU : " Closet ". Tucker is eventually promoted to Lieutenant. He investigated the entire SVU Unit after a convicted rapist and child molester, Gilbert Keppler , accuses them of dragging their feet in the investigation which allowed him to rape another boy. He interrogates everyone and questions why they didn't move on him when the first victim, Justin McTeague, came forward and they reveal that the victim had come in before and falsely accused a teacher of molesting him so they had to gather more evidence before questioning him.
In the previous case, their investigation had ruined the teacher's career even after he was exonerated of Justin's false accusations, having been interrogated for eighteen hours before they revealed who his accuser was which allowed the man to finally prove his innocence. Tucker is surprised when he learns that Keppler's third and fourth victims hadn't even realized that something was wrong, with the fourth not coming forward until he saw the doctor in handcuffs on TV.
They found DNA evidence as a result of waiting which made Keppler's conviction a lock, none of which would've happened if they had arrested Keppler on Justin's word alone. Tucker stops the investigation and according to Cragen, he actually apologizes for the whole thing, but Tucker asks them to keep IAB in the loop. SVU : " Lead ".
He arrests her in SVU's office while her colleagues protest and Tucker attempts to use her treatment for PTSD and single life to get her to confess but she wouldn't and asked for a lawyer. It is later revealed that the real killer is a serial rapist named Brady Harrison , who Benson collared six to seven years ago and framed her using fabricated DNA. SVU : " Perverted ". She angrily accuses Stabler when he is trying to pick up her son Nicky and while Stabler denies the allegations, Tucker doesn't believe him and Hank is shown to have a bloody nose.
He interviews Stabler about the incident and continually accuses Stabler until Tutuola cuts the interview short, despite Tucker's protests when Nicky and Sandra are arguing in the squad room.
Tucker follows them and eventually witnesses Nicky telling everyone that Sandra kicked Hank in the face and instructed her to blame Stabler. He also reveals he and his mom were beaten by Hank as well and she tried to get Nicky to lie saying Stabler beat him.
He investigates Stabler again when an underage rapist named Hunter Mazelon accuses him of touching his junk. While obviously false Tucker still persecutes him and when Stabler follows Hunter Tucker questions him. The charges are eventually dropped after Hunter's other victims are revealed and he murders his own molester. SVU : " Delinquent ". He investigates Detective Amanda Rollins after she shot and killed Jeff Parker , her sister 's abusive ex-boyfriend, while he was in the process of attacking her.
During this investigation Benson and Cragen make clear their contempt for Tucker, and he demonstrates a prejudice against SVU, often needing to be reined in by his captain while investigating the case. After Kim changes her story to say that Jeff wasn't attacking her, and learning of the insurance policy which named Detective Rollins as a beneficiary, he had her arrested. He is later forced to drop the charges when he is presented a recording by Detective Nick Amaro , where Kim admits to setting Amanda up in order to collect the life insurance policy she took out on Jeff, which would not pay out if the deceased was killed while committing a crime.
He and another detective later head to Kim's hotel room to arrest her only to find that she has already fled. SVU : " Deadly Ambition ". He investigates a corrupt precinct known as the 12th when they are suspected of burying complaints. Eventually he calls on SVU's assistance and offers Brian Cassidy his detective's shield badge to investigate when his witness, Mike Groves, is institutionalized because he suspected the 12th of raping a woman named Tanya Jenkins.
Brian is partnered with West, the prime suspect, and is eventually convinced that West, his partner Ryan Quinn and his lieutenant Terrance Wood are dirty. They set a honey trap, but Tucker tips Wood off to Brian's status as an undercover to find the leak, leading Quinn and West to try to kill him.
Brian is saved, but Cragen is outraged that Tucker put Cassidy at such risk for his case. Tucker is also force by Cassidy to get Groves out of the psych ward. Eventually the case is closed and everyone is locked up.
SVU : " Internal Affairs ". He and Cassidy are later called to investigate Amaro after he shot and paralyzed Yusef Barre while chasing a suspect who supposedly shot a cop. During the investigation Tucker continued his pattern of relentlessly investigating SVU by interrogating Rollins, Amaro and the wounded officer.
He later arrests Nick when his blood alcohol comes back almost positive. He later investigates when people shoot at Amaro and almost kill his mother and daughter causing Amaro to chase after the shooters with a baseball bat. Though Tucker investigates the incident, he is sympathetic to Amaro, saying he would have done the exact same thing or worse in Amaro's position. Amaro is eventually cleared but has to be restricted to desk duty until Benson has relieved him from it.
When William Lewis commits suicide and frames Olivia for killing him, Tucker is called to investigate and arrives at the hospital just after Sergeant Benson arrives. Tucker calls Murphy's leadership into question and brings up Benson slipping her protection detail and accuses Benson of murdering and assaulting Lewis, while Murphy defends Benson's actions as necessary to save Amelia Cole.
Tucker skeptically asks him if he witnessed this and Amaro states he heard some of it. Tucker tries to get by him, but Murphy won't budge and Tucker eventually leaves.
Tucker and Sergeant Cole Draper take Sergeant Benson's statement about the incident with Benson explaining how she went to find Lewis on her, was forced to leave her weapon, vest, and cell phone and then kidnapped her.
She then tells of how Lewis almost raped her when he decided not to seeing she wouldn't resist. Rita Calhoun cuts the interview short and takes Olivia out of there to confer with her client.
They continue the interview with Rita present the next day and she tells them Lewis held the revolver he killed himself within his left hand. She then describes Lewis' game of Russian Roulette and how they took turns. Tucker stops Benson and turns the camera off before he tries to offer Benson a way out: Claim she killed him in self-defense to save Amelia.
Benson initially refuses and Tucker pulls up all the evidence to the contrary and repeatedly tries to convince her to change her story. But Sergeant Benson stubbornly states she won't commit perjury to save herself. Tucker and Draper then interview Murphy, Tutuola, Rollins, and Amaro about their accounts of the incident with all but Amaro giving general statements in Benson's favor.
Amaro tells them about Benson's spontaneous admission that Lewis killed himself with Tucker and Draper trying to dissuade him. Amaro then exclaims that they aren't going to frame her for killing Lewis. Benson and Rita then visit Tucker and Draper one last time before they turn in their report with Tucker once again urging Benson to say she killed Lewis to save herself from ADA Derek Strauss ' inquisition.
Benson and Rita both state that Benson isn't changing her "story" and Tucker wishes Benson luck with Strauss before they turn in their report. Benson is eventually cleared of any wrongdoing once Murphy had told the grand jury more about Lewis' past. Simon reached out to the friend, looking for a job, and they wound up doing drugs together. Long, sad story short: The guy called the blonde woman, whom he knew from a strip club, and she and some friends brought some potent new drugs with them to party.
The next morning, the women were gone and Simon was dead. He had one last good time. His connection is suspicious about why the police just let him go… and then he is shot while Liv and Stabler sit in a stakeout car — which is also hit by gunfire — just a few feet away.
